First, check to see if you have the VPN installed on your computer. You can do this by typing “cisco” or “anyconnect” into the windows search bar:

or by looking at the list of programs in the “Add or Remove Programs” part of Windows settings:

  1. If Cisco AnyConnect is installed, go on to step 2.

  2. If you can’t find AnyConnect on your computer, you will need to install it. I will attach the installer file to this article. Download and install the attached file, anyconnect-win-4.6.04056-core-vpn-predeploy-k9.msi

Now connect to the VPN. It is generally easiest to run the VPN program from the Windows search bar, as shown in step 1. Run it. A window should appear that looks like this:

Ensure that the box has either “soonerconnect1.ou.edu” or “soonerconnect2.ou.edu” in it. You may need to enter it manually. Click “Connect.”
The following box should appear:

Ensure that the “Group” box is set to “Default user split-tunnel,” and enter your OU 4x4 and password into the “Username” and “Password” boxes respectively. Accept the security agreement that will appear. The client may need to update at this point. It will do that automatically. You should see a message that says that the VPN has connected. If you don’t, look in the bottom right corner of your screen for this icon:

You should now be connected to the campus network remotely and able to access anything from I: and H: drives to software activation servers.

Global Protect and VPN for Windows Machines

  • Global Protect

    • To install the Palo Alto GlobalProtect VPN client go to https://ouvpn.ou.edu

    • Enter 4x4 (for Norman campus) or OUHSC ID (OU HSC campus) and password

  • Select the version to be installed

  • Open installation file and click ‘next’ through each step of installation

  • Portal address is ouvpn.ou.edu

    • You will be prompted to enter your 4x4 or OUHSC ID and click ‘sign in’

  • Acknowledge the ‘welcome to OU Remote Desktop’ pop up (click do not show this again if you want) and then exit the welcome screen

  • From here you should be prompted to accept the PingID authentication

  • Now you are connected!

  • To disconnect from the VPN click on the three menu bars at the top right and choose disable
