Scope

Featured Collections is a Discover feature that allows us to bring together bibliographic records that are related in some way. ExLibris uses the example of,

“… a collection titled “The Beatles” (based on the popular rock music band) which holds records of physical items, including biographies and sheet music, digital audio, and video of live performances and studio recording sessions, and any number and type of song and record album holdings.”

We think this will be a great way for librarians, faculty, and Special Research Collections staff to highlight UL resources, Exhibits, and items on display. Once a collection is set up, a URL is created, and that collection URL can be used to highlight the collection outside of the library catalog.

Workflow

·      Collection request created at the Discovery Services Desk

·      Submission is received

o   Removal Date will be set as an expiration date

·      Collection is created and published to Discover

·      A URL to the Collection is sent to the Submitter

·      Removal Dates will be tracked, and expired Collections will be removed from view

Things needed from Collection Submitter:

·      Collection Title

·      List of barcodes or MMSIDs

·      Sort preference for Collection (date, title, author, or relevance)

·      Image for Lobby/Banner to be attached

·      Removal Date

What the Submitter can expect from us:

·      Turnaround time of 2-3 workdays once a complete submission is received

·      We will provide a Collection URL that the Submitter can share their Collection in other platforms
