Setup Family View in Steam

Purpose

Steam is used by the Maker Space and the Emerging Technologies group for AR/VR demonstrations and workshops. Enabling Family View can restrict access to the Store and prevent end users from making purchases while allowing those with the PIN to install and make new games available.

Enable Family View

From Settings click Family from the left menu options. Then click on Manage Family View

 

Leave the Online content & features unchecked. Items selected here will be enabled under the restricted mode. Click Next.

 

Select any existing items to make available under the restricted mode. Click Next.

 

Set up the email address to be used to recover access. This should be a Libraries or department email address. Click Next.

 

Set up PIN and store details in a secure location. Click Next.

 

Enter the Secret Code that was emailed to the address that was configured in a previous step. Click Next.

 

Click the red button with the silhouette of people in the upper right-hand corner to enter Family View. This restricts access to desired features within Steam.

 

Click OK to confirm.

 

 

Enable Games with Family View enabled

Click the green button with the silhouette of people in the upper right-hand corner.

 

Enter PIN and click OK to exit Family View.

 

To enable a game in Family View, right-click on the item and select Manage → Add to Family Games.

Then click on the red button with the silhouette of people in the upper right-hand corner to switch back to Family View.

 

Click OK to confirm.

 

The game should now be visible in the Library.

 

Remove games from Family View

Click the green button with the silhouette of people in the upper right-hand corner.

 

Enter PIN and click OK to exist Family View.

 

To remove a game from Family View, right-click on the item and select Manage → Remove from Family Games.

Then click on the red button with the silhouette of people in the upper right-hand corner to switch back to Family View.

 

Confirm that the selected game has been removed from the Library.
