How to Reconnect to WIFI@OU After Changing Your OU Password

OU 4x4 passwords are updated every 12 months for security reasons, but Windows has a hard time recognizing this with regard to its Wi-Fi login. So, after you have changed your password, you will likely need to forget the network and reconnect.

How do I know if my password is the problem?

One clear indicator would be this message. If Windows had no problem connecting to the internet the day before, but suddenly tells you that it “Can’t connect to this network,” your password is more than likely to blame. Additionally, if you’ve ever connected to OUGuest, a similar error will appear when you try to go through the login page at access.ou.edu.

How can I fix this?

The solution is very straightforward: you must forget the network in Windows Wi-Fi Settings and reconnect as you normally would, entering your username and new password. The steps are shown below if you are unfamiliar with the process.

The Solution

Click on the Windows button in the bottom left of your screen.

Click on the gear icon to go to Windows Settings.

Click on “Network & Internet.”

Then click on “Wi-Fi.”

Now click on “Manage Known Networks.”

Find “WIFI@OU” in the list of networks. In this case, it’s the only one available, but you may have dozens to sort through. Click on it.

Now click on “Forget.”

The network should disappear from the list.

Now click on the back arrow in the top left of your screen.

Click on “Show Available Networks.”

Then click on “WIFI@OU.”

Click “Connect.”

Then click “Connect.”

The enter in your 4x4 and password and click “OK.” It may ask you one more time if you would like to connect. If it does, click “Connect.”

That’s all! You should be connected once again.
