How To Net-Reg

For devices to operate on OU’s network, they have to be properly registered. This is a quick guide to making sure devices are registered. If you are concerned that a device is not registered, there is an easy was to test it. While you are connected to the internet, no websites or general searches seem to work on the device. Often times, going to http://google.com will redirect you to the OU Network Registration page if the device you are on is not net-reged.

 Instructions

There are two ways to net-reg a device, either from a computer or from the device directly. First, from a net-reged device:

  1. This method requires a MAC address to complete the process. You may want to have that on-hand. This link takes you to the OU Network Registration page: OU Network Registration

  2. Here, you will log in with credentials that are also used for wi-fi on public devices (the username is the same but these two are unrelated). The username is “libn1826” and the password can be found in LastPass under the document “Libnet - Network Registration”.

  3. After you sign in, you will see this screen, and in the right-hand corner, there is an option to register a new device. Click this, and you will be prompted to enter a description, a MAC address, a device category, and type.

Once the fields have been entered and the device added, the process is complete.

Now the second method of net-reging a device from the device itself:

  1. Go to the OU Network Registration page: OU Network Registration while on the device in question while connected to internet. Wifi or ethernet is acceptable for this process. Alternatively, navagating to http://google.com may direct you to the page.

  2. Even if the device is not yet registered, you should be able to reach the page. Once on it, log in as described in the previous method. Logging on the site on an unregistered device will register it.
