Microsoft Windows - How to enable Remote Desktop access to a Windows workstation

  1. Open Settings

  2. Click System

  3. Click Remote Desktop

  4. Click the “On” slider option under “Enable Remote Desktop” to enable remote desktop

  5. Click “select users that can remotely access this PC”

  6. Click the “Add” button

    1. You may have to authenticate here using your OU 4x4 credentials

  7. Type in the user’s 4x4

    1. ensure that the “Locations” is set to sooner.net.ou.edu

  8. Click “Check Names”

  9. Click “OK”

  10. Click “OK”

You can now close Remote Desktop settings. Take note of the computer’s host name, we will need that to create the RDP connection. To find the computer’s host name:

  1. Open Settings

  2. Click System

  3. Click About

  4. You will now see the hostname of the computer, the hostname includes sooner.net.ou.edu

     

Now you can create a connection in Microsoft Remote Desktop on the device that will be remotely accessing/connecting to this computer. Please click here to visit the guide to set up a Remote Desktop connection.
