Installing a Xerox Printer Copier on a Windows10 computer

This article provides directions on how to install the new Xerox Printer/Copiers.

Note: The computer must be connected to the campus wired network to communicate with the printer.

 Instructions for PC

  1. Installation of the drivers requires admin account permissions, which is .\firstname_lastname and the password that you set for yourself. You will need to be logged in to continue to the next steps. Please refer to this doc if you are having trouble with your admin account.

  2. Go to the Xerox website and download the latest drivers for a Xerox called : PCL6 Print Driver for Administrators.
    https://www.support.xerox.com/en-us/product/altalink-c8100-series/downloads?platform=win10x64&language=en

  3. Make sure you unzip/extract the file that you just downloaded. You can do this by right clicking on the file and selecting extract all.

  4. Now you will want to navigate to the devices and printers section of the settings menu.

  5. Next, click on the add a printer or scanner button on the top and scroll all the way down until you see the option my printer wasn’t listed.

  6. You want to click the option “Add printer using an IP address or hostname” its should take you to a screen that looks like this.

Now you will want to click on the first drop down and select “TCP/IP Device” it will make your screen look like this.

6. Now you will want to put the IP of the printer you are trying to connect to in the first box and let the second box fill itself in then click next. You can see a list of the IP’s bellow.

Room 149 Copier / Scanner / Printer

  • IP address: 10.195.64.143

WHC Admin Office

  •  IP address: 10.195.150.25

Library Service Center

  •  IP address: 10.196.225.22

7. The installer will prompt you to use the current drivers you have installed. Once you click the printer should be fully installed.
8. To verify that the printer works, print a test page.

  1. Occassionally the printer won’t set up because “The Adobe license is expired or hasn’t been activated” (I don’t even try using microsoft) and it won’t print anything, another way (that honestly in my opinion is easier) is to go back to the same Xerox link you used to download the PCL6 Driver and download the Smart Driver thing (It’s the very first one if you’re looking at every driver they offer) and then let the app install it (always hit my printer isn’t listed in the app so you can make sure you’re connecting to the correct one). If you do this it automatically throws the xerox machine into settings and you have an app that tells you levels and it’s honestly a lot nicer to play with in my opinion. -Emily
