For a wired connection (USB Type A to USB) plug the USB Type A into the printer and the USB into the computer
Set up the printer in the desired location with a connection to power
PC (Windows)
In the Windows search bar, search for and select “Printers & Scanners”
Choose “Add a printer or scanner” located at the top of the screen next to a plus sign
It will load with some possible printers and scanners that it detected, scroll all the way down and select “The printer that I want isn’t listed” (your printer can also be selected if it pops up)
Select the way that you would like the printer to be set up, usually done by selecting the TCP/IP option, and click “Next”
Go through the settings on the printer and print out a configuration page in order to get the IP address associated with the printer
Type the IP address in the “Hostname or IP address” box, making sure to get all of the zeros added in as well
Go through the prompts (drivers, changing printer name, sharing)
Print a test page to confirm proper connection to the printer
Mac
Open up “Printers & Scanners” in “System Preferences” (you can also search “Printers & Scanners” in the search bar at the top right of the screen on the menu bar)
Click the plus (“+”) button on the bottom left of the window
Click “IP” along the top of the new window
Enter the IP address for the desired printer and change the other information as needed
The computer will now download the proper software for the printer, once finished, the printer will be connected
or,
In the main Screen, go to “Go“ > “Connect to a server“ > Enter ipp:// followed by the IP address of the printer. For example ipp://10.195.64.7/
Notes
Most printers do not support a connection to computers with both WiFi and Ethernet, it is mostly one or the other
To get an IP address for a printer, go through the settings on the printer and print the configuration report (the IP address should be listed next to “IP Address:” under the “IPv4” area)
